Holiday on Great Barrier Island

Easter is probably the last ‘run’ of the visitors to Great Barrier Island until Christmas. I say ‘run’ as in the bull run in Pamblona because when I went down to the ferry on Friday, there were hundreds of visitors coming off the boat, all carrying lots of gear and all moving in one direction. Weather was pretty crap on Friday and Saturday, with big swells on the East Coast – well that’s a good thing for the surfers – and rain and wind. I had a bit of a surprise visit from friends who spontaneously decided to come to Great Barrier Island. Unfortunately, their initial ferry ride across was canceled due to bad weather and their island experience was thus shortened.

I was glad they came anyway, it was good catching up. Today would have been a good day to go fishing, but I decided to get some work done on site. Built a dog kennel for Rani, when I put her on the lead at night she can still come inside and sleep by the fire or go into her kennel. I’ve been enjoying the wood burner for three days in a row, keeping the fire going. Went on a fire wood mission today.

That will last me for about 10 nights.
Rani is happy in her new kennel.

Having been up to much else really. Had a night in the pub on Saturday which was good fun and finally cleaned up my shed. It’s such a good feeling when I go into the shed and everything is tidy and organized. Well, wish I had a nice snapper for dinner. Didn’t go out for a fish and will have to sort out something else to eat. Hope I’ll be out there fishing soon and putting a little story together. Here a couple more pictures…
